When you run down the list of Steelers off-season needs, receiver may not be high on your list. It is however an important position that will have to be addressed. Pittsburgh has their outside receivers set with Diontea Johnson, and George Pickens. Beyond that the team is very thin in terms of depth, particularly in the slot. So in our continuing series of Steelers off-season targets 2.0, we present Parris Campbell formerly of the Indianapolis Colts.
Two things stand out that would be attractive to the Steelers right off the bat. Parris Campbell should be a relatively cheap free agent, and he has the kind of breakaway speed this team sorely lacks on offense. He is coming off his best season as a pro in 2022 with 63 catches, for 623 yards and 3 touchdowns. All this with a quarterback situation in Indianapolis that can best be described as a dumpster fire in 2022.
Coming out of Ohio St. in 2018 Campbell had 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns. His athletic profile at the combine backs up the potential of this receiver. He was in the 90th percentile the 40, broad jump, vertical, and 20 yard shuttle. https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/parris-campbell
Campbell played primarily in the slot in 2022, a perfect fit for what the Steelers need next season. The combination of Gunner Olszewski , and Steven Sims leave room for a much needed upgrade at this position. Signing Parris Campbell seems like a no-brainer this off-season. He will come cheap, and adding his 4.31/40 speed will give this team the big play speed it desperately needs. It’s not a flashy signing, but the kind of under the radar deal one can expect from this team once free agency opens. Top 5 under the radar Steelers free agent targets
