The buzz over the Steelers potentially signing Aaron Rodgers has reached a fever pitch.  It is the only thing anyone will talk about when it comes to the Steelers quarterback situation.  Does it strike anyone as strange that Omar Khan and company don’t seemed at all concerned at Rodgers continued stalling on actually committing to the club?  While other options at quarterback continue to disappear, the Steelers seem to be completely unbothered.  What if the plan was to target Jaxson Dart all along, and a veteran starter was never a priority in the first place?

There is plenty of evidence to support this theory.  Omar Khan refused to give commitments to either Justin Fields, or Sam Darnold to be their starter past the 2025 season in contract negotiations.  It was cited in both cases as the main reason why the ended up signing elsewhere.  The prominent theory behind that is that the Steelers plan on drafting a quarterback in 2026. What if that timetable is off by say 12 months?  Pittsburgh could very well be planning on taking a quarterback this year, and letting that player sit for at least some of the 2025 season.

If the Steelers are planning on drafting a quarterback in 2025, the only name that makes sense is Jaxson Dart.  The Ole Miss product’s stock has risen dramatically during the draft process.  What was once thought of as a fringe first round talent, is now being considered a top 15 pick by some draft experts.  There is still a very good possibility Dart will still be available at 21 however.  If that is the case, the Steelers would have to seriously consider selecting him.  Steelers mock draft 1.0: The way too early version

Dart had an impressive final season at Ole Miss.  He had a 70% completion percentage, with 4,279 yards passing and 29 touchdowns.  Add in 500 yards rushing, as Dart is an anbove average athlete for the position.  He improved his play every year in the toughest conference in college football.  The Steelers met with Dart at the NFL draft combine, and almost certainly be at the Mississippi pro day on Friday.  The links between Dart and the Steelers continue to grow.  Several well respected draft annalysts have him going to Pittsburgh in their mock drafts. https://www.nfl.com/news/2025-nfl-mock-draft-daniel-jeremiah-3-0

Nobody knows for sure what the Steelers plan was/is at quarterback.  The way they have handled the situation this offseason is curious to say the least.  The fact that this team still does not have a starting quarterback, and doesn’t seem the least bit concerned points to a grander plan.  That plan very well could be drafting a quarterback at 21 this year.  If that’s the case, Jaxson Dart makes all the sense in the world.  It’s as good an explanation as any as to what the Steelers intentions are at quarterback.
