The rumors surrounding the Las Vegas Raiders potentially trading Davante Adams have reached a fever pitch this week. Naturally, any time any wide receiver is rumored to become available the Steelers are automatically linked to that player. Obviously Davante Adams would be a massive upgrade to their current wide receiver situation. Adams had more yards receiving last week (59), than Van Jefferson has had all season (36). There may be a better option out there however. The Steelers should target Tyreek Hill above all others in any trade for a wideout before the NFL trade deadline. Hill is the most dangerous offensive weapon in the NFL, and would improve the Steelers offense dramatically.
If you watched closely to the broadcast of the Dolphins/Titans game on Monday night, you may have caught this clip of Tyreek Hill’s frustration boiling over, https://x.com/_mlfootball/status/1840942227679215768?s=61
It seems only a matter of time before Hill shoots his way out of Miami. The quarterback situation is abysmal there, and Hill’s frustrion with the offense will only grow as the weeks go on. From the Dolphins point of view this could become a no-brainer. If they are out of the playoff picture come the end of October, why not trade the 30 year old pain in the neck with the big contract? Tyreek Hill’s availability this season is a question of when, not if.
As far as the player is concerned, there is no more disruptive weapon on offense than Tyreek Hill. If the Steelers are truly looking for a shot in the arm for this offense, this is the player they should target. Hill can add things that Davante Adams simply can not. End arounds, wide receiver screens, even working out of the backfield are strengths unique to Hill. These strengths would line up perfectly in the Arthur Smith offense. Not to mention there is no one in the league more terrifying in the open field. Adding Hill would not only help George Pickens see less of the opposing team’s attention, it would open up the running game significantly. No team would dare put 8 and 9 men in the box with Tyreek Hill on the field.
Ok so we’ve decided Hill is the priority, now what’s the cost? Just two years ago it cost the Miami Dolphins a first, second, two fourths, and a sixth round pick to acquire Hill. A lot has transpired since then however. Hill was then a 28 year old, and this trade was made during the offseason where there were many more suitors. Miami will undoubtedly begin negotiations asking for a first round pick. It’s more likely they will land a second, or a third rounder and a player.
Whatever the cost, the Steelers should target Tyreek Hill if they truly want to contend for a title in 2024. There is no other player in the NFL that can make the impact that he can. So as we said form the top, forget Davante Adams, Deandre Hopkins, or whoever else might become available before the trade deadline. Go get Tyreek Hill, and make a push for the first playoff win in eight years.
