OFFENSE: (24)
QUARTERBACKS: (3) Ben Roethlisberger, Mason Rudolph, Josh Dobbs
There’s still a slight chance the Steelers could move Dobbs and keep Devlin Hodges as I’ve been predicting all along. Mason Rudolph has clearly shown that he is now the backup quarterback for this team no matter who sticks around behind him.
RUNNINGBACKS: (4) James Conner, Jaylon Samuels, Benny Snell, Roosevelt Nix
At the beginning of this process, if you had told me Benny Snell’s job may be in jeopardy I would have called you crazy. Snell has had a poor preseason, and Trey Edmunds has made a strong case to make this roster. Still, Snell has been just good enough on special teams to hold off his competitor.
WIDE RECIEVERS: (6) Ju Ju Smith Schuster, Donte Moncreif, James Washington, Diontae Johnson, Ryan Switzer, Johnny Holton
We held out hope all off-season that Diontae Spencer could win a job on this team because of his dynamic return ability. That dream seems all but gone when you see how little Spencer was used in the final preseason game. On the other hand, Johnny Holton was used extensively and made some big plays in the game. Holton is in the mold of DHB, and that is just the type of player Mike Tomlin loves.
TIGHT ENDS: (3) Vance McDonald, Xavier Grimble, TBA
I am running out of time to be right on my prediction that the team will bring in another tight end. With roster cuts upon us, this will be a great chance for Kevin Colbert to find an upgrade to a pretty poor group. If I’m wrong, Zach Gentry wins the third tight end job by default. There was really no one in camp to even partially challenge him, especially when Christian-Scotland Williamson got injured.
OFFENSIVE LINE: (8) Alejandro Villanueva, David DeCastro, Maurkice Pouncey, Ramon Foster, Matt Feiler, Chuks Okorafor, BJ Finney, Zach Banner
The Steelers may have been giving us a clue by using Feiler at guard so much during the preseason. Feiler’s flexibility should allow the team to carry only eight lineman this time around. That will open up the ability to carry more players at other positions.
DEFENSE: (26)
DEFENSIVE LINE: (6) Cam Heyward, Stephon Tuitt, Javon Hargrave, Tyson Alualu, Dan Mccullers, Isaiah Buggs
This group has been set from the get go. Rookie Isaiah Buggs has had a strangle hold on the sixth spot for some time now.
INSIDE LINEBACKER: (5) Vince Williams, Devin Bush, Mark Barron, Tyler Matakevich, Ulysees Gilbert III
Welcome to the ten linebacker version of the roster prediction business. The Steelers simply have too much talent at linebacker not to carry ten. Linebacker went from weakness to strength in twelve months. Kudos to Kevin Colbert for the turn around.
OUTSIDE LINEBACKER: (5) TJ Watt, Bud Dupree, Anthony Chickillo, Ola Adeniyi, Tuzar Skipper
It’s simple really, the Steelers simply can not cut Tuzar Skipper. He led the entire NFL in sacks during the preseason. This team struggled mightily to find pass rushers for years. Now Kevin Colbert is finding them on the scrap heap. It’s a great problem to have for this organization.
CORNERS: (6) Joe Haden, Steven Nelson, Artie Burns, Justin Layne, Mike Hilton, Cam Sutton
Justin Layne has really struggled during the preseason, but there really isn’t anyone to challenge him. Artie Burns has been his usual up and down when he’s gotten a chance to play. Mike Tomlin better pray for no injuries to the outside corners or it could get ugly out there.
SAFETIES: (4) Sean Davis, Terrell Edmunds, Kam Kelly, Jordan Dangerfield
This is another position that could use an upgrade during roster cuts. Kelly has been impressive all preseason, but he is still unproven. Dangerfield is nothing more than a special teams player at this point.
SPECIAL TEAMS: (3)
LONG SNAPPER: Kameron Canaday
KICKER: Chris Boswell
PUNTER: Jordan Berry
you could be right honey I think my Steelers should be special this yr since we have no drama in the locker room this year
