You see power rankings all over the internet.  Everyone trying to follow he college football model.  Truth is ranking teams individually is too subjective in football, never mind the NFL.  Here we rank teams in tiers from elite to awful.

DEAD – Teams competing in the Sam Darnold sweepstakes

Dolphins, Broncos, Browns, Colts, 49ers, Giants, Buccaneers, Bears

The Broncos and Buccaneers are huge disappointments this season, and it’s  probably going to cost the head coaches their jobs.  In fact, other than Kyle Shanahan all these head coaches may be out of work come the end of the year.

LIFE SUPPORT – Teams with a sliver of hope, but c’mon who are we kidding here

Raiders, Jets, Packers, Bengals, Redskins, Cowboys, Texans

Green Bay, Dallas, and Houston have all been crushed by injuries to their most important players.  The Raiders were everybody’s sleeper pick in the AFC, ya not so much anymore.

ALIVE BUT….. – Teams still with a legit chance at a playoff spot, but not really

Bills, Ravens, Lions, Chiefs, Cardinals, Seahawks

What in the world happened to the Kansas City Chiefs?  After starting out 5-0, they have lost 5 out of their last 6!  Bruce Arians deserves coach of the year consideration for winning any games with quarterbacks he’s rolling out there.

JUST A SLIGHT LIMP – Teams squarely in the playoff hunt, but not quite Super Bowl caliber

Jaguars, Panthers, Falcons, Chargers, Saints, Titans

The Chargers have come back from he dead…..literally.  Two weeks ago I had them in the dead category.  A combination of them being on fire, and the Chiefs falling apart have them a good bet to win the division.  New Orleans is right on the fence of elite.  If they can get their corners healthy they should be in the thick of the Super Bowl hunt.

HEALTHY AS A HORSE – This is the elite group of teams that could rightfully expect to get to the big game.

Steelers, Patriots, Eagles, Vikings, Rams

Pittsburgh certainly didn’t look like an elite team barely scraping by the beat up Packers at home.  They continue their tradition of playing down to the opponent.  This secondary has to be a major concern heading into the playoffs.  Regardless, the Steelers are nearly a lock for a top two spot in the AFC.  What can we say about the Eagles?  They seem pretty invincible right now, but let’s see how Carson Wentz does in his first go around in the post season.  The surprise Rams and Vikings have been extremely impressive so far this season.  In the end, everyone is lining up to beat the Super Bowl Champion Patriots.  Hard to see that happening right now, but there’s a long way o go yet.
