After 14 games we have a pretty good feel for the strengths and weaknesses of the Pittsburgh Steelers.  With that in mind, it’s a good time to take an early look at the Steelers biggest needs for the 2025 draft.  Understandably there is a lot that can happen between now and April, but it doesn’t hurt to take an early glance at what the Steelers might be looking for come the NFL draft:

1. Wide Receiver:

This team can not go through another season where a player the caliber of Van Jefferson is the WR2 on this team.  Pittsburgh needs to invest heavily in this position in the offseason.  Adding both from free agency, and early in the draft is the only acceptable course of action.  This almost certainly will be the position selected in the first round barring a blockbuster move via trade or free agency.  We warned people about this problem starting in March, and now we see how bad it really is with the injury to George Pickens. 2. Corner:

You can make a really good argument corner is the poison the Steelers should go with in round one over reciever.  Donte Jackson will be a free agent after the season, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  Despite his five interceptions, Jackson’s play has been below average.  There is even some concern over whether or not Joey Porter Jr. will ever become a number one corner in this league.  To make matters worse, the depth here is nonexistent.  The Steelers need to invest heavily in this position in the 2025 offseason.

3. Defensive Line:

Cam Heyward is in the midst of possibly the best season of his career.  How long the 35 year old can maintain this level of play is uncertain to say the least.  Keeanu Benton will need a partner along the interior for the long term. This upcoming draft is a good time to get out ahead of any potential Heyward fall off.

4.  Guard:

The Steelers have invested heavily in their offensive line over the past two drafts, and that needs to continue in 2025.  Isaac Seumalo will be 32 next season, and is about to enter the last year of his contract.  Adding a guard in this draft make a lot of sense.  It would give the team depth in 2025, and a potential Seumalo replacement there after.

5. Running Back:

Najee Harris will be a free agent after the season, and it doesn’t seem very likely the team will bring him back.  There’s quite a few miles on that soon to be 27 year old body.  Running back should not be on the table on day one or two.  The Steelers should be able to find a very good back later in the draft.  Most experts are calling this an extremely deep running back class.  We’d prefer a back with some speed this time around.  It would be a welcomed difference from the plodding backs this team has had for years.
