Next up in our series on potential Steelers free agent targets is former Washington Commanders corner Kendall Fuller. While Fuller does not have the type of size and length the Steelers seem to covet now, he is a very solid player in this league. Let’s take a deeper look into Kendall Fuller:
The Skills:
Kendall Fuller was third round pick of the Washington Commanders in 2016. He did not work out at the combine due to injury. As you can see by his spider chart, he is not the tall lanky athlete the Steelers have seemed to prefer lately. There is more than adequate athleticism to make Fuller one of the better corners in the league over his career. https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/kendall-fuller
This is an above average run defender at corner as well. Fuller has been around 80 as a run defense grade via PFF nearly his entire career. He graded out at an 83 overall from PFF in 2023, with a 78 run defense grade. Fuller has the ball skills as well with 16 career interceptions over his career. All in all, Kendall Fuller is an exceptional option for the Steelers as their number two corner.

The Money:
Kendall Fuller is generally regarded as the third best corner in the 2024 free agent class behind Jaylon Johnson, and L’Jarius Sneed. While most of us would love the one of those two, the price tag on them is quite prohibitive. Fuller on the other hand should come in at a much more reasonable number. Spotrac has him estimated at $14 million per season in their contract market value. This seems about right for a top notch number two corner. it may seem like a large number, but Omar Khan could easily make the first year cap hit very reasonable.
The Conclusion:
If you are looking for a reasonable CB2 as one of the Steelers free agent targets, you can’t do much better than Kendall Fuller. With Joey Porter Jr. following number one receivers on one side, and Fuller shutting down anyone else on the other side, this would have the makings of the elite defense Mike Tomlin dreams about.
Fuller does turn 30 this season, so this is not a long term answer. It would give the team more time to see if either Darius Rush, or Cory Trice can be the long term solution. All the while getting the team quality corner play as they push for better playoff success in 2024.
