Rashaan Melvin is not exactly a household name when it comes to cornerback. Melvin was an undrafted free agent out of Northern Illinois in 2013. He finished his college career with six interceptions and thirty five passes defended. That, and his size/speed combo made him one of the more attractive undrafted players. Melvin bounced around quite a bit until having a breakout year in 2017 for the Indianapolis Colts. He turned that into a one year $5.5 million free agent contract with the Oakland Raiders. Coming off a down year with Oakland (who didn’t), Melvin will probably be seeking another one year prove it type deal. This is exactly the type of bargain basement signing Kevin Colbert often looks for during free agency. With all the athletic traits and some upside, this could end up being a very good signing if the Steelers chose to do it.
