Now that the dust has settled on a wild round one, we shift our focus to who is left for the Steelers in round 2. Round one saw multiple trades and even more surprises. Pittsburgh ended up with Artie Burns a corner from Miami, addressing one of many needs on defense. In round two the Steelers will be most likely looking at safety, defensive line, or edge rusher.
Some names that were heavily linked to the Steelers in round one, slipped into the second round. Andrew Billings, the defensive tackle from Baylor went undrafted. As did Noah Spence, who was thought to be one of the top edge rushers. Vonn Bell is an Ohio St. safety that many people had mocked to Pittsburgh. It is not out of the realm of possibility that one or more of these players will still be available when Pittsburgh drafts in round 2.
Then there are players that were associated with the Steelers in the second round. Players like Su’a Cravens, Jihad Ward, Javon Hargrave, and Kamelei Correa were commonly talked about for Pittsburgh. Could there be a surprise in the mix like Ohio St. receiver Micheal Thomas, or a ultra safe pick like tackle Jason Spriggs?
I’ll rank my top 5 for Pittsburgh in round 2:
1. Noah Spence – edge – Western Kentucky
2. Andrew Billings – dt – Baylor
3. Jihad Ward – dt – Indiana
4. T. J. Green – s – Clemson
5. Javon Hargrave – dt – South Carolina St.
