We are now just 24 hours away from the 2025 NFL draft. All the possible clues have been covered. Checked all the Pro Day visits, and pre draft invitees. It’s time for the Steelers Sanctuary final Steelers mock draft. Let’s get right to it:
Round 1 (21) Jalen Milroe QB – Alabama
Hear me out on this one. We all know this time of year is called the “lying season” in the NFL. There has been so much written recently on the Steelers interest in Shedeur Sanders it got me thinking. Is this all a smokescreen to distract other teams from the Steelers preferred target? Ever since the Colin Cohwerd report that the Steelers are interested in Milroe, we have been bombarded by Shedeur Sanders rumors. Mike Tomlin mentioned he thought the team had become too predictable with their draft intentions. Could this be their way of covering their tracks by floating Sanders rumors? https://www.google.com/gasearch?q=colin%20cowherd%20steelers%20like%20milroe&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:e68702a9,vid:KHJYfsIwRgk,st:0
As far as Jalen Milroe as a prospect, well let’s just say he’s far from perfect. The concerns with his lack of accuracy, and production are well founded. What Jalen Milroe has going for him is one elite trait…athleticism. No other quarterback in this draft has even an elite trait to hang their hat on other than Milroe. Some are now saying he is a better running quarterback than Lamar Jackson. While that is a bridge too far, there’s no denying the 4.3 speed.
The other parts is his game will require time to develop. The plan would have to be to sit Milroe for at least one season while he works on his timing and accuracy. The Steelers brass attended the Alabama Pro Day, and took Milroe to a private dinner so there is definite interest here. Mike Tomlin told us how important mobility was in a quarterback, we’re about to find out he really meant it.
Round 3 (83) Joshua Farmer DT – Florida St.
There’s no questioning the need for the Steelers to come out of this draft with a defensive tackle. With no second round pick, this becomes a little challenging even with this deep class. Joshua Farmer is the perfect size (6’3”/305/35” arms) for what the Steelers look for in a defensive tackle. He is a player with the kind of upside who could make this pick a steal this late in the draft. Farmer was one of the Steelers 30 pre-draft visits. This seems to have become the most important indicator when trying to determine Steelers interest. Five of the seven Steelers draft picks were pre-draft visits in 2024, nine of the fourteen total since Omar Khan took over.
Round 4 (123) Justin Walley CB – Minnesota
Justin Walley was a late addition to the Steelers pre draft visitors. A ball hawking corner with seven career interceptions, to go along with 4.4 flat speed. Most of Walley’s snaps came on the outside at Minnesota, but he does have some slot experience as well. This is a versatile corner with some good upside this deep into the draft.
Round 5 (185) Ollie Gordon RB – Oklahoma St.
There have been plenty of Steelers mock draft with smaller, faster running backs mocked to the Steelers. What we all may be forgetting is Mike Tomlin has a type. He likes himself big, physical backs. The Steelers already have the smaller, more athletic backs on the roster in Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell. Look for the team to add a back like the 226 pound Ollie Gordon in this draft. None of us may be to fond of this, but the guy calling the shots sure will.
Round 6 (185) Marcus Tate OG – Clemson
We have been on this theory that the Steelers will at interior line depth throughout the process. Steelers mock draft 3.0: The post Pro Day edition
Marcus Tate is a massive guard prospect out of Clemson. He stands 6’5”, and weighed in at 321 pounds. Tate is good on the move despite his size making him a good fit in the Steelers system. Injuries have cost him several games in his college career explaining why a talented player like this would be available in the 6th round. If Tate could ever stay healthy, he would be quite the addition to the young Steelers offensive line.
Round 7 (226) Jared Harrison-Hunte DT – SMU
This name peaked our interest when we saw he had been in for a pre-draft visit. Harrison-Hunte is a super athletic defensive tackle out of SMU. He scores a 9.2 RAS score with a whopping 4.86/40 yard dash at 290 pounds. The Steelers have a history of loving these tweener 3/4 defensive ends. This prospect fits exactly that, and would be a perfect flyer this late in the draft.
